Scriptural Answers to Life's Most Important Questions

1. What must I do to be saved?

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. (John 5:24 NKJV)

So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (Acts 16:31 NKJV)

Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38 NKJV)

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Rom 10:9 NKJV)

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:15-16 NKJV)

2. What must we hear?

While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!" (Mat 17:5 NKJV)

"For Moses truly said to the fathers, 'The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. (Acts 3:22 NKJV)

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Rev 3:20 NKJV)

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (Rom 1:16 NKJV)

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Rom 10:17 NKJV)

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; (Heb 1:1-2 NKJV)

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (Mat 28:18 NKJV)

3. What must we believe?

So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (Acts 16:31 NKJV)

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Rom 10:17 NKJV)

Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." (Acts 8:37 NKJV)

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 NKJV)

4. What must we confess?

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Rom 10:9 NKJV)

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. (1 John 4:15 NKJV)

and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Phil 2:11 NKJV)

"Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. (Mat 10:32 NKJV)

5. Why must one be baptized?

Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38 NKJV)

'And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.' (Acts 22:16 NKJV)

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Gal 3:27 NKJV)

Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? (Rom 6:3 NKJV)

who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine long-suffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. (1 Pet 3:20 NKJV)

There is also an antitype which now saves us; baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, (1 Pet 3:21 NKJV)

For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, (Rom 6:5 NKJV)

buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. (Col 2:12 NKJV)

7 Of what church should one be a member?

"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, (Christ words) and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Mat 16:18 NKJV)

which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Col 1:17-18 NKJV)

"Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. (Acts 20:28 NKJV)

Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you. (Rom 16:16 NKJV)

8. How many churches do we read of in the New Testament? How do we become members of that church?

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Eph 4:4-6 NKJV)

so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. (Rom 12:5 NKJV)

Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (John 3:5 NKJV)

9. What are Christ's followers called?

And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. (Acts 11:26 NKJV)

Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. (1 Pet 4:16 NKJV)

To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom 1:7 NKJV)

To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Col 1:2 NKJV)

10. How must Christians worship?

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24 NKJV) (The things which we are commanded to do in worship are told in answers to the next six questions.)

11. What must we preach?

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching. (2 Tim 4:2 NKJV)

explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ." (Acts 17:3 NKJV)

Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. (Acts 8:35 NKJV)

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. (Acts 5:42 NKJV)

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15 NKJV)

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Mat 28:19 NKJV)

"teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Mat 28:20 NKJV)

And those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brethren, but rather serve them because those who are benefited are believers and beloved. Teach and exhort these things. (1 Tim 6:2 NKJV)

But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. (Gal 1:8-9 NKJV)

12. What kind of music is commanded in the New Testament? What is the purpose of such music?

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. (James 5:13 NKJV)

speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, (Eph 5:19 NKJV)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Col 3:16 NKJV)

13. What exhortation regarding prayer are found in the New Testament?

pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Th 5:17-18 NKJV)

I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; (1 Tim 2:8 NKJV)

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16 NKJV)

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, (1 Tim 2:1 NKJV)

for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. (1 Tim 2:2 NKJV)

14. What scriptures should guide the Christian in giving of his means?

On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. (1 Cor 16:2 NKJV)

he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. (Rom 12:8 NKJV)

15. How regularly should Christians meet and for what purpose?

not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Heb 10:25 NKJV)

Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. (Acts 20:7 NKJV)

16. What exhortations should guide the Christian in Lord Supper/ communion?

In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." (1 Cor 11:25 NKJV)

For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. (1 Cor 11:26 NKJV)

Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. (1 Cor 11:27 NKJV)

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (1 Cor 11:28 NKJV)

For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. (1 Cor 11:29 NKJV)

17. Can a Christian sin? If so, what should he do?

For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. (James 3:2 NKJV)

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. (1 John 1:8-10 NKJV)

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (1 John 2:1 NKJV)

The place in the Scripture which he read was this: "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its sheerer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. (Acts 8:32 NKJV)

18. What are some scriptures which will help the Christian to live acceptably to God?

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Rom 12:1-2 NKJV)

of then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. (Col 3:1 NKJV)

Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure. (1 Tim 5:22 NKJV)

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Cor 15:58 NKJV)

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Rom 13:14 NKJV)

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, (Eph 4:1 NKJV)

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. (Gal 6:9 NKJV)

19. What are the Christian's duties toward his fellowmen?

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Gal 6:10 NKJV)

"Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Mat 7:12 NKJV)

Let no one seek his own, but each one the other's well-being. (1 Cor 10:24 NKJV)

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Mat 5:16 NKJV)

Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether to the king as supreme, (1 Pet 2:13 NKJV)

They said to Him, "Caesar's." And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." (Mat 22:21 NKJV)

that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing. (1 Th 4:12 NKJV)

20. What promises are contained in God's word for Christians?

There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. (Heb 4:9 NKJV)

"Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. (Rev 2:10 NKJV)

"In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:2-3 NKJV)

Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. (2 Tim 4:8 NKJV)
